Background: Second trimester pregnancy is often accompanied by
complaints of lower back pain and anxiety due to physiological and

may affect the health of both mother and fetus. One of the nonpharmacological interventions that can be applied is pregnancy
exercise. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effectiveness of
pregnancy exercise on lower back pain and anxiety levels in second
trimester pregnant women at Puskesmas Pal 3 Pontianak in 2025.
Method: This study used a quantitative method with a preexperimental design through a one group pre-test and post-test
approach. The research was conducted at Puskesmas Pal 3 Pontianak
with a total sample of 32 respondents selected using purposive
sampling technique. Data were collected using the Visual Analogue
Scale (VAS) for pain assessment and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating
Scale (HARS) for anxiety measurement, and analyzed using the
Wilcoxon test, Result: showed a significant decrease in lower back
pain and anxiety levels after the implementation of pregnancy
exercise. The significance value obtained was p-value 0.000 (<0.05),
indicating a significant effect of pregnancy exercise on reducing
lower back pain and anxiety levels in second trimester pregnant
women. Conclusion: pregnancy exercise is effective in reducing
lower back pain and anxiety in second trimester pregnant women.
Therefore, it is recommended for healthcare providers to enhance the
implementation of pregnancy exercise as one of the interventions in
midwifery services to improve maternal health.
